RY SMALL: Tsunami Gift–Shore on Fire
June 27 - July 25th
Tsunami Gift – Shore on Fire is a visual meditation on disruption and transformation—on what remains when the wave recedes. The work confronts emotional upheaval, environmental collapse, social disarray, financial instability, psychological turmoil, and spiritual reckoning. These sweeping forces leave behind not only wreckage, but also space—space for reckoning, rebuilding, and unexpected beauty.
This mixed-media series draws from a gonzo journalism ethos, merging the personal and the observational. It is part memoir, part cultural critique: an immersive narrative rendered in large, intricately layered canvases. The works explore themes of entropy and rebirth, sensory overload and the search for inner calm, brokenness and the possibility of reconstruction.
With vivid color, tactile materiality, and layered symbolism, Tsunami Gift – Shore on Fire examines the connective tissue between people—the fragments we salvage, the memories we carry, and the scraps we assemble into shelter. These are stories of homes lost in the flood, and of those still waiting to be built. It is an invitation to witness collapse not as an end, but as a gift: the fire on the shore that lights the path forward.
